History of Rock Garden
The Rock Garden was discovered on 24 February 1973 by Dr. S. K. Sharma, who led an anti-malarial party during a vector scouting task in the forest where the park is located.
Soon after, the late Dr. M. S. Randhawa (former Chief Commissioner of Chandigarh) visited the place and presented the subject to the Chandigarh Landscape Advisory Committee as its chairman in a meeting held on June 23, 1973, in which the proposal was made. That the scrap in the form of this garden of rocks, stones was most unique and should be maintained in its original condition, free from architectural interference.

Different Phases of Rock Garden
The garden is divided into different phases. Moreover, each phase had its own uniqueness. Let me introduce you to the different phases of the garden.
Phase 1- Rock Garden
In the first phase I saw, a network of compartments decorated with terracotta pots, chambers and mirrors, broken bangles, tiles, pieces of tube light, broken toilet pots, as well as other waste. Moreover, the area has many sculptures of animals, birds, humans, and other figures made from urban and industrial waste.
Phase 2– Rock Garden
As soon as we stepped here, I felt as if we had entered a small traditional Indian village.
Here, I saw man-made waterfalls, small temples, and huts surrounded by forest and vegetation. The place is so fascinating that it feels as if one has entered the town of a real village.
Phase 3- Rock Garden
The third phase features camels and elephants, as well as a courtyard built from chiseled rocks. Moreover, it also recently set up a mini aquarium with beautiful fish and fun mirrors. There are swings in the courtyard as well as a community activity open theater.
The attraction of Rock Garden, Chandigarh
Now, let me introduce you to the amazing things I saw there:
The waterfall is one of the major attractions of the rock garden, in Chandigarh. I saw the water falling down on the pavements of the tiny huts of an unreal village which sounded so soothing to the ears. Me and my friends clicked many pictures here.
Oh! these mirrors. Must be wondering what are these laughing mirrors all about. Basically, you will find a long series of 10-11 mirrors here and when you stand in front of these mirrors it creates distorted shapes of you which will make you laugh out loud.
Basically, phase 3 of the rock garden consists of an aquarium. Here you will get to see fishes which draw everyone’s attention. I personally loved this mini aquarium.
There are too many big swings in the garden where you can see children as well as adults playing and having fun. We too joined them it was so fun.
Doll House Museum
Ah! dolls are every girl’s favorite. We also went to a doll museum in the garden. The setting of the museum represents rural life. Basically, there are hundreds of dolls made up of waste clothes representing the lifestyle of a village. It just felt like we are in some village.
There are many more places to visit in the rock garden. Therefore, I would suggest that everyone should visit the Rock garden, Chandigarh at least once.
