Chandigarh, the city beautiful has got a new tourist attraction connecting two of its most famous older ones. It’s Chandigarh’s first pedestrian underpass. Sector 17 Underpass Chandigarh connects sector 17a and Rose Garden. I was quite excited when I got to know about it. I decided to visit it and found it fresh and interesting. Sector 17 is famous for its market which constitutes several places to shop from and amazing food spots that have catered for people for years. Zakir Hussain Rose Garden Chandigarh, a beautiful botanical garden gets its name after India’s former president Zakir Hussain. The history of Rose garden Chandigarh is quite vast and because of that, it attracts a large number of tourists.

Construction of the underpass
While reading about the underpass I got to know that the project required funds of ₹ 9 crores. The project had three parts. The underpass is for better connectivity of the two areas of Sector 17 Chandigarh and Rose Garden Chandigarh. The two areas are otherwise connected through the busy Jan marg. It solves the problem of being caught up in vehicular traffic, for tourists. The Rose garden underpass is open 24/7 as rose garden timings are also the same, meaning both the spaces are never close

Key features of the underpass
When I visited the underpass the thing that attracted me the most was the paintings on the wall. These walls provide a perfect platform for artists to put their art out in the world. The skating rink is the other thing that piqued my interest, it’s an amazing place for skaters to practice. The amphitheatre with a seating capacity of over 100 is an amazing feature of the underpass as well. A space of about 6-8 meters is for cycle ramps. There is a plan to ply golf carts and there’s a provision for that as well. The plan is to convert the northern plaza into a cultural hub. Rose garden underpass 17 a, sector 17 Chandigarh is a fantastic addition to the area.
What is happening at the Sector 17 underpass Chandigarh?
I most certainly believe that sector 17 underpass is serving its purpose. It has enlightened the area which once was the centre of attention for the tourists at Chandigarh. Many art enthusiasts like me are finding the art on the walls beautiful. It is now a site for social media influencers for shooting their videos. Kids are enjoying watching the skaters at the rink. I find the overall vibe of the place to be fun, fresh and fascinating.
Sector 17 underpass surpasses the expectations. it has attracted a whole new set of crowd. I feel Chandigarh’s fairly new attraction popularized its street food available at the two ends very well too. It has beautiful lighting and livened up the place. It gets a crowd of people of all ages. Personally, I find the art, paintings and sculptures at the gateway to be fascinating. It brings out the best of both the areas it connects. The pedestrian underpass has lit up the two places that became dull due to the city’s new attractions. Sector 17 market now again seems to be filled with shoppers and rose garden with plant lovers.
