The NEET PROTEST: student protest in chandigarh

Introduction: The NEET protest started on June 6, 2026. from Delhi’s Jantar Mantar; the protest was held by Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Deepke. India’s youth are members of this party. This party is for all who want to change the system.

In India every year nearly 2.2 million students give the NEET exam. They practice very hard to give NEET; like most of them, they hardly sleep for 2 or 3 hours in a day so that they can spend more time on studying and qualify for the exam on their first attempt.

Why students started protesting: For the last two years, the NEET has been leaked some of the time; it was rescheduled and sometimes is cancelled because the guess paper was leaked. The exam paper was leaked repeatedly from the last two years, causing many students to commit suicide. They lost their lives because of the poor govt. system, and many families lost their children. It happened multiple times, and the government didn’t take any strict action toward the accused, so the Indian Student and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) started a peaceful protest in Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Student Demand in Protest:

The day protests start across India, many students participate in protests. They demand the resignation of the union education minister (Dharmendra Pradhan). And financial compensation of 1 crore to all the suicide victims. Who died because of the NEET exam paper leak and cancellation.

Hunger strikes movement:

After 26 days, Ladakhi engineer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest. Then, the movement gained momentum when he announced a water-only hunger strike to support and encourage the students. As a result, his statement drew nationwide attention and increased pressure on the government. Meanwhile, many politicians, including Arvind Kejriwal and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, came to meet him during the fast.
Furthermore, Sonam continued his hunger strike for 22 days. During the strike, he did not eat anything and lost 8 kg in 15 days. Later, he started losing weight rapidly, and his doctor warned that his condition could worsen if he continued without eating. After 20 days of the hunger strike, his health condition became a major concern.

Delhi Police in Action: The neet protest

Delhi Police arrived in the early morning of July 18 at Jantar Mantar in civilian dress. They took Sonam Wangchuk in a white sheet peacefully and admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital’s emergency ward.

Chalo Sansad and Lathi Charge: Forceful Entry into Parliament on 20 July 2026. When the official first day of the monsoon session of Parliament starts. Students begin the move to enter forcefully into Parliament. call “Chalo Sansad.”

The government took strict action against the protesters. Initially, Delhi Police used tear gas and then started a lathi charge. Moreover, the situation became horrific when Delhi Police brutally harmed students who tried to enter the area and damaged public property and Sansad Bhawan.

Delhi to Chandigarh: On 22 July 2026, after the lathi charge of NEET protesters in Delhi, Tricity’s youth start a protest with a candle march in Sector 17 Plaza. Students sit there and demand the resignation of the union education minister and the financial compensation of 1 crore to the suicide victims’ families. Thousands of local students and families flooded the Neelam cinema area with placards and slogans against the system.

Many placard slogans were written in Gen Z ways, like “ROACH SAKO TO ROACH LO.”

KUCHU PUCHU RESIGNED, DEDO NA TUM. I AM A SOCIAL VEGAN; I AVOID THE NEET anymore.

PRIME MINISTER POSTED REEL: Heavy mass protest across India over NEET paper leak. After 1.5 months of this protest, India’s Prime Minister Narendar Modi posted an Instagram reel on 25 July at 12:30 am. He addressed all the Gen Z protestors and called them “Hello, friends.” Then He spoke about the NEET exam paper leak and consoled the families of suicidal students. He assured the new paper leak bill law will be implemented soon and assured that strict action would be taken against whoever is responsible for the paper leak.

Resignation of Education Minister: On 26 July 2026, the union education minister submitted his resignation to the prime minister of India. He mentioned nothing is above the youth and their future. On the same day, the govt. announced the new union education minister, Shri Prahlad Joshi.

After the resignation of the education minister, everyone celebrated the win of democracy. Everyone praises the central government’s decision.
